Top 4 Ankle Braces

A lot of athletes, like to have their ankles taped (including myself), but there are times that it may be more cost effective and safer to wear braces.  Athletes may not always have access to an athletic trainer to tape their ankles and research shows that tape loosens up within 45 minutes of activity.  So, if you are practicing or competing longer than 45 minutes, I think it is better to wear ankle braces, instead.

Here are some of my favorite ankle braces:

1.  ASO Ankle Brace

The ASO lace-up ankle brace has the important heel lock and figure-8 straps that simulate an ankle tape job.  The brace fits in most shoes and cleats and limits inversion, eversion, dorsiflexion and plantarflexion of the ankle. A great brace for the prevention and treatment of inversion and eversion ankle sprains.  It also provides support for mild, high ankle sprains.

2. Active Ankle T2 Ankle Brace

The Active Ankle T2 hinge ankle brace is a lightweight ankle brace that limits inversion and eversion of the ankle, but allows full dorsiflexion and plantarflexion of the ankle.  A favorite brace among volleyball and basketball players.  A great brace for the prevention and treatment of inversion and eversion ankle sprains.

    3. Ultra Zoom Ankle Brace

The founder of  the Ankle Active company, created a new company called Ultra Ankle and improved the comfort and sturdiness of his original braces.  The Ultra Zoom ankle brace is designed for prevention of inversion and eversion ankle sprains, while allowing maximum dorsiflexion and plantarflexion.  Another excellent brace for the prevention and treatment of inversion and eversion ankle sprains.
